Agios Nikolaos or Aghios Nikolaos is a city located at the northeast coast on the island of Crete. It is east of the island’s capital Heraklion, north of the town of Ierapetra and west of the town of Sitia. Agios Nikolaos has approximately 27,000 inhabitants (with the surrounding villages) according to the last census in 2011.
Agios Nikolaos was first settled in the late Bronze Age by Dorian occupants of Lato.
