The Three Churches (Treis Ekklisies) is a small isolated coastal village located 64 kilometers south of Heraklion, in the middle of the wild landscape of Asterousia Mountains. The surrounding area, one of the most isolated of Crete, is difficult to access and has some very beautiful beaches. To get the Three Churches you will have to drive through a dirt road about 10 kilometers.
The view that you see until you reach the beach is beautiful. You can admire the stunning view of the Libyan Sea and the Three Churches. Nearby, in the middle of the dry landscape, there is the amazing waterfall of the canyon Aba with height 145 meters!
The village Three Churches (Treis Ekklisies) is built at the head of a bay formed at the exit of the gorge of Aba. The walls of this unknown gorge hosts the largest colony of vultures in Greece and southern Europe, including the bearded vulture, the rarest species of vulture in Europe. On Three Churches, except the wonderful crystal clear waters, you will find rooms and traditional taverns and cafes. The destination is ideal for those who choose beaches away from the noise, to relax and enjoy the view.
